Q.

what is the difference between drywood and damp wood termites

I was told that there are termites in my holiday home in Jamaica the ones there build a nest in the closet and in the roof they also have tunnels along the walls I am not sure what kind they are in Jamaica they call them duck ants
A.

Drywood and Dampwood termites will prefer different types of wood. Both do not need contact with the ground. Drywood termites will usually infest upper levels and on dry, hardwood. Dampwood termites infest areas that are subject to constant moisture (leaking pipes, constant precipication, etc.). However, it if they are seeing tunnels along the walls, you may be dealing with subterranean termites. Subterranean termites make mud tubes up the walls from the base because they need ground contact and the moisture that is contained in dirt. Unfortunately though, we are not sure what types of termites will generally infest homes in Jamaica. We do apologize.
