A common concern about bed bugs is that there are concerned hotel and apartment staff who are scared of having bed bugs in their clothes. The thing is news and alarm regarding the presence of bed bugs in hotel rooms and apartments are fast spreading. The staff is now asking that we, as professional pest control managers, do something like create or at least recommend bed bug repellent on clothes.
Our answer to the call is more or less the same as what we tell parents regarding pest repellents for kids. There is no definite bed bugs repellents which can be applied to clothes of hotels and apartments staff. The best thing that can be done in order to be sure that no bed bugs are in the clothes is to change clothes before going to places suspected of bed bug infestation. The discarded clothes should be placed in a sealed plastic bag; so that you can be assured that the clothes are safe from any bed bug. The outfit which you will change into should be a cover all. After going to places suspected of bed bug infestation, the used cover all should be subjected to a hot laundry and hot dryer. After which, it should be put in a sealed plastic bag to ensure that no bed bugs can get inside such attire.
The management of hotels and apartments should be committed in the prevention and control of these uninvited guests. This is because one cannot fully eradicate these bed bugs immediately. This takes time since complex processes are involved. This also needs dedication and effort on the part of the hotel and apartment management and staff.
