How to Get Rid of Carpenter Ants : The problem usually falls into two categories based on size

When dealing with a carpenter ant infestation, the problem usually falls into two categories based on size. It can be very difficult or really simple to eradicate. The simple version consists of an outside infestation that can be taken care of in a matter of a day or two. On the other hand, you have an indoor infestation that is more than overwhelming. Swarmers (also known as winged carpenter ants), along with workers, come up from every direction of the house. Normally, when this is apparent, after eradication of these pests, lumbers/timbers will have to be replaced.

Carpenter Ants in House

Whether you have a simple or difficult carpenter ant infestation on your hands, it is important to initiate a complete Carpenter Ant Control and Management method before it progresses to something more serious. First and foremost, you must inspect your home. How carpenter ants getting into your house? Where is the source of the problem? Once these questions are answered, you can then apply an accurate control method. For smaller size infestations, carpenter ant baits and sprays are your best bet to get rid of your pest problem. However, if the infestation is larger or the source/nest is along the inner walls of your home, you will have to go a little further before apply treatment. Drilling might be an option to get the immediate source of the problem. If you are able to reach the source without using drills or other means of dismantling, it is suggested to do so. Dust insecticides are very effective when applying treatment directly into a carpenter ant colony. A mixture of treatments is also suggested when handling a major infestation.

Q. I had carpenter ants in my bathroom and saw where they were going in/out from. Brought an exterminator that sprayed Cy-kick and we then caulked area. Then they made their was into the kitchen. We found a nest outside in a crack by the foundation and sprayed there. Were over a week now and it seems as though I am constantly finding carpenter ants everywhere (but especially in the kitchen and bathroom). Suggestions?
A.   We do recommend that you caulk all entry points. You should also consider using a bait like the Carpenter Ant Bait Gel and the Advance Carpenter Ant Bait Granules. Baits will help you target the entire colony rather than just the ones that come in contact with the sprayed area.

Q. What is the best way to eliminate Carpenter ants?
I have found the remains of ants and what lopoks like saw dust over a bathroom window upstairs in my house. I believe there is a nest above the window in the wall. I can not find a trail of them going back to the ground. What is the best way to eliminate them. Thanks
A.   Thank you for contacting us. It is the best to try and identify the ants first. From what it seems like, it is a carpenter ant infestation since you witnessed sawdust.

However, since we are unable to evaluate the situation firsthand, it is difficult to say.

If you have a carpenter ant infestation, you may want to use something like carpenter ant kit or Dupont Advion Ant Bait Gel that targets most common house ant species.

Q. Carpenter Ants Killer
Hi. I bought a 20 year old log cabin and found saw dust on the table in the kitchen, the living room, and basement closet rug. It's obvious there are several nests about the house. If no one has recognized the problem before me, that means as much as 20 years of ants doing damage. So far I haven't seen any ants, but spring is just arriving. What do you suggest for t treatment both inside and out. Is the Dupont product superior to the rest, or are they all pretty much the same? Thanks
A.   For your ant problem, it seems like they are carpenter ants? Dupont ant bait gel does target carpenter ants as well as other species of ants. Maxforce Carpenter ant gel that is part of the Maxforce line is made specifically for carpenter ants. These are both bait gels that have proven to be highly effective in the pest control industry.

Q. Carpenter Ants are back
We have recently dropped terminex after one year of spraying, etc for carpenter ants. The ants are back and seem to like our upstairs bathroom alot! Can you recommend something that won't poision our cat and dog? Thank you.
A.

If you look on our website [www.pestmall.com], there are many products with the active ingredient called Fipronil. This is known to be one of the safest active ingredients on the market.

Some of the flea treatments that you would spray directly onto cats or dogs contain the active ingredient Fipronil.

Termidor, which is a insecticide/termiticide contains Fipronil, and also, we have a bait for the carpenter ants that also contains Fipronril.MaxForce Carpenter Ant Bait Gel is a gel form of a bait that poisons the stomach of the ants.

They will carry the bait back to their colony and it will ultimately wipe out the colony. Depending on the size of the colony and your infestation, the time period could take from one to three weeks.

If there is anything else I could assist you with, please let me know. Thank you.

Q. flying carpenter ants control
couple of weeks ago i had a swam of flying ant on a window in my home. We sprayed now i have crawling ants that are not attracted to terro bait whatsoever. What is best
A.   Swarmers usually do not feed on bait. We recommend using a liquid concentrate such as Phantom to spray the ants as a contact kill. Phantom has a residual time of up to 3 months.

Q. Carpenter Ants In Front Yard Tree
I have found carpenter ants an old maple tree adjacent to my house. The distance from the tree and house is approximately 20 feet. Is there a concern for infestation into the house? Should the tree be treated to rid the ants? Can the tree be saved?
A.   We recommend treating the maple tree with Termidor to ensure that the infestation does not spread. If it is an early infestation, the tree can be saved. Please be sure not to spray onto only ornamental trees.

Q. carpenter ants in the house
I have spotted carpenter ants in my kitchen, garage and in the front of my house. Would baiting be the best way to attack them? I am not sure where the nest is but it might be near the roof in the front of my house. They seem to also live in two of the palm trees I have in the front of my house.
A.   Indoors, we always recommend baiting. Gel baits work the best because they can fill in cracks and crevices as well as cling onto vertical surfaces. Outdoor, however, we recommend spraying. Termidor SC is the best product to spray for carpenter ants. Although it is a termiticide, it will work to kill carpenter ants quickly and effectively.
