How do bed bugs invade a home?

Where the bed bug invasions start

Because bed bugs redily hide in small crevices, they may accompany (as stowaways) luggage, furniture, clothing, pillows, boxes, and other such objects when these are moved between apartments, homes and hotels. Used furniture, particularly bed frames and mattresses, are of greatest risk of harboring bed bugs and their eggs. Thus, one should carefully scrutinize and consider the history of any used furniture, particularly 'street' items so plentiful at the beginning and end of each academic year. When treating the 'used' furniture treat it using a non residual (Steri Fab or Rest Easy) for long residual last even after drying and can irrate the skin. Because they readily survive for many months with out feeding, bed bugs may alreay be present in apparently 'vacant' and 'clean' apartments. Bed bugs can wander between adjoining apartments throught voids in walls and holes though which wires and pipes pass. In a few cases, bats and/ or birds may introduce and maintain bed bugs and their close relatives (bats bugs and bird bugs) Pest control personnel should be mindful of the presence of blood feeding insects and mites that may be left behind after removign nests or roosts of birds and bats in and on the home.

Bed Bugs live in any articles of furniture, clothing, or bedding so they or their eggs may be present in used furniture of clothing. In cases where you are worried about bed bug eggs being present treat is using and (IGR) Insect Growth Regulator such as Gentrol IGR Bed Bug Aerosol Spary or Gentrol IGR Liquid Concentrate. Do not use these products to treat mattress or bed linen. They may also be present in boxes, suitcases, or other goods that are moved from residence to resident or from a hotel to home. Bed bugs can live on clothing from infested homes and mayu be spread by a person unknowingly wearing infested clothing.

Bed bugs travel to invade your home

There are several means by which dwellings can become infested with bedbugs. People can often acquire bedbugs at hotels, motels, or bed-and-breakfasts, and bring them back to their homes in their luggage. It is always a good idea to carry a bed bug control spray like Rest Easy Travel Size with you and treating your suit case as well as clothing when you travel. They also can pick them up by inadvertently bringing infested furniture or used clothing to their household. If someone is in a place that is severely infested, bedbugs may actually crawl onto and be carried by people's clothing, although this is atypical behaviour except in the case of severe infestations, bedbugs are not usually carried from place to place by people on clothing they are currently wearing. Bedbugs may travel between units in multi-unit dwellings, such as condominiums and apartment buildings, after being originally brought into the building by one of the above routes. Bedbugs can also be transmitted via animal vectors including wild birds and household pets.

Bed bug eggs' start the invasions most of the time

This spread between sites is dependent in part on the degree of infestation, on the material used to partition units and whether infested items are dragged through common areas while being disposed of, resulting in the shedding of bedbugs and bedbug eggs while being dragged. In some exceptional cases, the detection of bedbug hiding places can be aided by the use of dogs that have been trained to find the insects by their scent much as dogs are trained to find drugs or explosives. A trained dog and handler can detect and pinpoint a bedbug infestation within minutes. This is a fairly costly service that is not used in the majority of cases, but can be very useful in difficult cases.

The numerical size of a bedbug infestation is to some degree variable, as it is a function of the elapsed time from the initial infestation. With regards to the elapsed time from the initial infestation, even a single female bedbug brought into a home has a potential for reproduction, with its resulting offspring then breeding, resulting in a geometric progression of population expansion if control is not undertaken. Sometimes people are not aware of the insects and do not notice the bites. The visible bedbug infestation does not represent the infestation as a whole, as there may be infestations elsewhere in a home. However, the insects do have a tendency to stay close to their hosts, hence the name bed bugs.

What affects the bed bug invasions

Bed bugs are small, cryptic and agilem escaping detection after crawling into suitcases, boxes and belongings. The eggs are especially tiny and are usually overlooked. Aquiring secondhand beds, couches and furniture is another way that the bugs are trasported into previously non- infested dwellings. Once bed bugs are introduced, they often spread throughout a building. The bugs can travel from room to room or floor to floor either by crawling or via a person. Unlike cockroaches that feed on filth, the level of cleanliness has little to do with most bed bug infestations. Pristine homes, hotels and apartments have plenty of hiding places and an abundance of warm- blooded hosts. Thus, they are almost as vulnerable to infestation as are places of squalor.

When bed bug like insects are found, it's improtant to consider whether bats, swallos, chimney swifts, pigeons or other wild hosts are involved. Although similar in appearance, species of bed bugs that nomally feed on bats and birds can be differentiated from those that prefer humans. Entomologists and knowledeable pest control firms can make this determination.

Using Dust along the floor and wall will help with the infestation. Spread and even thin layer using a dusting tool, the dust will get on the bed bugs and they will be able to expose it to the whole colony. If using dust like Mother Earth D Dust you will not have to worry about your pets since it is an all natural product and will not harm them.
