Adult Mud Daubers are mostly about 1/2-1"+ long and SLENDER. They are usually black and have pale markings or a metallic luster. The wings are clear or dark. Mud Daubers are solitary wasps and they do not live in colonies. The females construct their nests out of mud that is how they get their name mud dauber. The female mud daubers construct many short tubes which are usually about 1" long and side by side. Female mud daubers paralyze spiders with their venom and lay her eggs inside them.
