• Washing all bed sheeting and clothing on normal cycle and 'high heat' dryer cycle (185 degrees) is sufficient to kill 100% of eggs and eliminate future hatch. Or freezing clothing and bed sheets for a week.

• Vacuum on a regular bases. When removing the vacuum cleaner bag or canister of the bag less vacuum discard it outside of the facility.
• Be careful not to return laundered or dry cleaned clothing and sheeting to hamper basket/ bags - used to transport the clothing.
• Reduce clutter.
  
• Thoroughly clean the infested rooms as well as other in the residence. Scrub infested surfaces with a stiff brush to dislodge eggs, and use a powerful vacuum to remove bed bugs from cracks and crevices.
• To prevent bed bugs from crawling onto a bed, pull the bed frame away from the wall, tuck sheets and blankets so they won't contact the floor, and place the frame legs into dishes and cups of mineral oil.
• Caulk and seal all holes where pipes and wires penetrate walls and floors, and fill cracks around baseboards and cove moldings to further reduce harborages.
• Do not apply pesticides unless you fully understand what you are applying and the risks involved.
• Do not dispose of furniture that is useful. Infested furniture can be cleaned and treated. Placing infested furniture (particularly mattresses) into common areas or on the streets may simply help spread bed bugs to the homes of other people. Infested furniture intended for disposal should be defaced to make it less attractive to others. (For Furniture use products such as Steri Fab )

Travel Tips and Recommendations on Bed bugs

Since most bedbugs are carried by travelers through contact with beds and hotel rooms in infected locations, following are some tips for those traveling to hotels that might be at risk.

1. First, examine the room for potential hiding places of bedbugs, such as carpet edges, mattress seams, pillow case linings, bed boards, wall trim or other tiny crevices in which bedbugs might hide.
2. Next, look specifically at the mattress seams for signs of bedbug activity: droppings, eggs, bloodstains or even bedbugs themselves, hiding in tiny folds and seam lines.
3. Keep a flashlight nearby when sleeping, to immediately observe suspected activity during the night without having to get up out of bed, thereby giving bedbugs time to hide in safety.
4. Never leave your clothing lying on the bed, or any location of possible infestation (as mentioned above). Instead, use hangers or hooks capable of keeping all cloth distant from the floor or bed. Suspend new shopping in bags the same way.
5. Close all luggage (suitcase, travel bag etc.) when you're not using it. This way, during the night the bugs may move over the top of your bags and have difficulty getting inside.
6. Elevate your luggage off the floor to luggage stand, tables or chairs. These can also be hiding places, but they are not as likely to be.
7. Keep any bedbug you find (intact if possible) to show the hotel owner.

Pesticides Recommendations for bed bugs

There are many insecticides that are available in both dust and spray applications. Some of the primary ingredients to look for when choosing something prove to combat bed bugs include premetherin, propoxur, chlorpyrifos, cyflutherin, fencalerate, benseneacatate, and resemthrin.

Hydoprene (Gentrol IGR Bed Bug Aerosol Spary or Gentrol IGR Liquid Concentrate.) is an insecticide that does not actually kill bed bugs outritght, rather it works to sterilize adult bed bugs. While the process may take a bit longer it tends to ensure th e eventual end of the infestation.

For more organic approach you might consider the use of non- residual pyrethrin (Steri Fab or Rest Easy, Mother Earth D Dust). This form of insect control is derived from the chrysanthemum flower and routinely kills insects on contact.

You must first locate where the bed bugs live. Remember, just because they are called bed bugs, doesn't mean they can't live in other areas of the home. Once the bed bugs are located, there many control methods that may be used to combat the bed bugs.

Cleaning Recommendations to controlling Bed Bugs

Vacuuming all visible bed bugs from the mattresses and box springs and their other known dwellings is an effective removal option. Ensure the vacuum bag is removed, sealed, and disposed of immediately after the vacuuming process. Mattresses and pillows can be cleaned, paying particular attention to the seams and ribbing of the mattress, to kill any remaining bed bugs. Seal the mattress and box springs in plastic bags to make sure any missed bugs do not attempt to escape. Bed linens and drapes can be dry cleaned or wet washed with a cleaning detergent and bleach in hot water.

Many pesticides are available for use. They should always be used in accordance with the manufactures' label. Insecticides can provide instantaneous results for active bed bug infestations and residual protection against future infestation.

Insecticides are classified by the application method: Crease and Crevice, Indoor Surface, Indoor Space and Fumigation. It is important to know the differences between each category in order to utilize the most effective treatments.

Different Bed bug infestation location treating recommendations

Crease and Crevice application are for areas that are typically hidden or hard to reach. Some wetsprays fall into that category. Dust can be applied using either a puffer or a brush. Dust are lighter and can pentrate further than insecticides wetsprays, therefore, they should always be used in places where with deep cracks and crevices. Dust are also preferred over wetsprays tor treating the tufts, folds, and sleep surfaces of mattresses and bedding materials.

Indoor Surface treatment is for areas where the bugs are most likely to crawl in route to either their dwellings or to where they like to feed. This type of process is commonly referred to as residual treatments. They are designed to stay active for an extended period of time to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment. The sprays are to be applied to the bed frames and the non-sleeping surfaces of mattresses.

Drawers should be removed from dressers and flipped upside down, to ensure all surfaces are thoroughly sprayed. Spray wood and all walls at least 24 inches above the flooring for the entire room.

Indoor applications are used to kill bed bugs on contact. These insecticides are usually found in the form of aerosol sprays (Bedlam Bed Bug Insecticide Spray). When harborages are located, it's recommended that you spray the insecticide in the air in the area toward the bed bugs.

Aerosols are recommended that treating materials like clothing or stuffed animals. These types of items can be placed into a plastic bag or a closet (which is also probably infested). Spray the aerosol into the closet or bag and close it for 10-20 minutes.
