Q. Bird mites
I have a bird mite infestation 2 local pest controllers have removed the nest, sprayed with Ficam, fogged (one week later) and smoked + light.(one week after this) the bird mites began biting again a week after the last treatment. The local council pest control is investigating other treatments, since I'm not alone in this. Can you suggest any further ways of eradicating them? I live in England. Many thanks
A.   Bird mites are very difficult to get rid of. The best solution is to use an insecticide synergist to enhance the effectiveness of the current insecticide.

Q. bird mites treatment
We discovered yesterday while cleaning the kids tree house that there is a bird nesting under the eves and the tree house is full of bird mites. We had mights all over us - everyone showered, I put our clothing in plastic bags and left it outside but I am scared to death that we will end up with an ifestation in our house. We have 2 dogs and 4 cats who all are Frontlined on a regular basis but all of the stories on the internet of bird mites infestations are freaking me out!! What to do next??
A.   Bird mites can be fairly difficult to get rid of if you are not careful. You do need to check to see if all your entry points are sealed and that cracks and crevices in the structure as well as utility lines that go into the building have been checked. We recommended using Nygaurd IGR, Onslaught Insecticide and Exponent to attack bird mites. Although there aren't many insecticides that have bird mites on the product label as a target pest, from our experience, we have noticed that these insecticides together have been the most successful in fighting bird mites. All three insecticides are concentrates and so they have to be diluted in water but they can be mixed in the same solution.

Q. how do i aply onslaught inceticide in my room
i have mites in my room and on my beds and chairs please help me to get ride them.thanks hope to here from you soon.
A.   Depending on the species of mites, the method of treatment will change. It is best to identify what mite species you are dealing with first. Generally though, Onslaught will be applied to base boards, window sills, the frames of the furniture but it cannot be applied directly onto areas that you come in contact with. For example, it can be sprayed on the frame of the bed and underneath the bed, but it cannot be sprayed onto the top surface of the bed where you will lay down. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us again.

Q. What product kills mites?
A.   We have a variety of products that will kill mites. It will depend on the formulation of insecticide that you will like to use to treat for mites. Liquid sprays may be the most effective. Such products like Talstar Pro and Onslaught are liquid concentrates that must be diluted in water and sprayed on. These provide a long residual. Sterifab is also very effective, but it does not have a residual effect.

A.   The active ingredient Onslaught Insecticide with Martins IGR works best on mites in general. However, we do not have any items that specifically target bird mites.

Q. if there was no nest can you get rid of them easier
My sister passed away in March, so I inherited most of her belongings, I had decided to have a yard sale to sale some of her clothes, I have them stored in a shed in the back yard. Brought one box in laid the clothes on the bed, a couple of night later, I felt them crawling across me, I told my husband but he never felt anything so they tried to say it was all in my head. After about 2 months we finally found out what they were---after they had spread most of the house, new living room furniture, both bedrooms our cat. We sprayed with the Bifen I/T yesterday then felt them last night. I put some tape on the air duct when I found them on it, so my husband went in the atic and sprayed it. I am still finding them on us. we could only bath the cat with flea and tick shampoo, if though she didn't like it she isn't scratching. I had read some web sites on line it about how to get them off of humans, we sprayed down in the shower with bleach and water, 10:1 ratio, then used epsom salt. then wash your hair and rinse it with vinger. It seemed of help, but the smell was hard to get used to, but it only lasted long enough to go to bed, it just seemed they were right back. the pest control we contacted only told us what we could use, helping with expenses. Please tell me what we should do. We took everything apart and sprayed it or washed it in HOT water. is there anything else we can do? Please we are going insane!!!!
A.   Unfortunately, we do not have any products that list out bird mites as a target pest. Bird mites require not only chemical treatment but exclusion as well. All cracks and crevices should be sealed. If you would like more information on bird mite control, please feel free to email us at info@pestmall.com
