How to Get Rid of Earwigs
HOW to GET RID of EARWIG
Earwigs can easily be recognized by their pincers at the end of their abdomen. Their pinchers are harmless to humans and although it is a myth that earwigs do bite, do may pinch with their pincers if they are aggressively handled. Earwigs are dark reddish-brown, with light brown legs, and they are about 5/8″ long. Earwigs will lay their eggs under the soil about 2-3″. Earwigs need moisture to survive. Earwigs are mostly active at night and they eat dead insects and decomposing plant materials. They are also attracted to light. If earwigs appear in the house, it is safe to say that they came from the outdoors through an entry points (i.e. doors, crack and crevice, window sills, drains, utility pipes and windows).
INSPECTION
During the day, earwigs can be found under organic matter (i.e. mulch, pine straw, leaf litter). They prefer dark and damp areas such as under sidewalks, and stones. They can come into homes through entry points like doors and windows, or they even go up the foundation.
CONTROL METHOD
Earwigs can be controlled with liquid spray ( FenvaStar EcoCap ) using a liquid hand sprayer , granule (BIFEN GRANULES , ECO EXEMPT G GRANULES ) using a granule hand spreader (HANDLE SPREADER), and aerosol (CY-KICK AEROSOL). Since earwigs’ habits outside, you will need to control the earwigs outside to stop them from coming into your home. For that kind of control, you will need to use the amount instructed on the label and spread uniformly around your structure to keep them from coming into your home. This treatment is called a barrier treatment because it makes a barrier around your home. For the application use above, it is suggested that you use liquid spray and granule. Irrigate the lawn after the application of granule to activate the granules. We recommend that you use aerosol for indoor treatment, you can use liquid spray for indoor use also, and however aerosol spray is easier and more effective. If you do inside treatment using residual aerosol spray, you will need to treat entry points such as crack and crevice, doors and windows, openings around pipes and sinks, under refrigerators, behind baseboards, washing machines, stoves, cabinets, sewers, floor drains, storage areas, closets, shelves, and drawers.

Hi Jennifer,
They are fairly harmless and do not harm people. They may pinch if they feel threatened, but usually, they are very harmless, regardless of their frightening appearance. We recommend using granules in lawn area. This will kill them on contact. The Bifen LP Granules will work well for earwigs. You should also spray dens, storehouses, the entire perimeter of the home. We recommend Suspend SC. Neither Bifen LP or Suspend can be applied on vegetable gardens or fruit trees. It cannot be applied on your father in law’s vegetable garden. They are omnivorous, feeding on smaller insects, plants and ripe fruits. They also feed on decaying plant matter which makes them scavengers. So, your father in law’s garden may have given them a broader food source, but they will feed on a variety of plants as well as insects. Unfortunately, we do not recommend spraying any pesticides on gardens nor by the pool. Read all product labels before applying any insecticides. If you have any questions about the products that we recommend, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-788-4142 and any of our representatives can help you with the product selection or other information on earwigs.

Hi Bonnie,
I don’t think that the earwigs will bite her but they may pinch her sometimes as a defense mechanism. I do not believe that it is dangerous for your dog though. However, earwigs are a great nuisance and the infestation can grow quickly. We recommend getting an external, structural inspection done to check for any cracks and crevices that can possibly serve as entry points. You should caulk or seal those cracks. We also recommend spraying a residual insecticide around the entire perimeter of the house. We also recommend applying insecticide indoors as well. Indoors, you are restricted to apply the insecticide around baseboards, behind and under large appliances like the stove, refrigerator, and laundry machines, window sills, and door frames. Keep in mind that all treated areas must be completely dry before it is safe for reentry. We recommend Talstar Pro or Suspend SC to control earwigs. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us again.

Hi Angel,
It will not be possible for them to survive for an extended period of time in the car. However, you can spray the floor of the car in areas like under the seats and leave the car doors and windows closed for a couple of hours. Be sure to ventilate the car before sitting inside and all treated areas must be completely dry before reentry. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to contact us again.

How cannyou notice a earwig does it hert when they but does it hert when they go into your brain and shall we be scard

Earwigs going in to the ears and destroying the brain is a myth. Although it may be possible for insects to occasionally crawl into peoples ears, besides the factor of discomfort and alarm in varying degrees they usually will not cause great harm.
