Male horseflies like to feed on plant juices and matter, while the female is one that sucks on blood. Most people can attest to the fact that their bites are quite painful. Also, they are definitely some of the largest flies in the United States, as they are over an inch long with a wingspan of “2.5.  Horseflies are black and brown in color.

HORSE and HOUSE FLY CONTROL METHODS

Unfortunately, there aren’t too many chemicals that can control a horsefly problem. Light traps, (FLY-WEB-LIGHTLuralite Pro Fly Light), aerosol (V CLEAN-OUT FOGGER 6 OZ., PRO CITRA DL BOTANICAL INSECTCIDE ), liquid spray (LambdaStar 9.7% CS, ARCHER IGR – 1 PINT) hand-sprayers (CHAPIN 1 GALLON SPRAYER) and bait (MAXFORCE FLY SPOT BAIT, MAXFORCE GRANULAR FLY BAIT ). Fly light traps are some of the most prevalent fly control methods. They utilize a high voltage UV lamp, trapping the fly (or other flying insect) to the light. These traps can be mounted on the wall, providing a solution that’s pretty effective. When it comes to the liquid spray, it’s imperative that a person uses the amount instructed on the label. Spray outside  of the home where flies gather, such as fence wires, garbage cans, plants, and on the ground. Non-residual aerosol is to be treated on window and door frames. While bait can be effective, it should be said that it treats less surface area compared to the contact sprays.

There’s always the chance for the person to use the bait as a liquid spray, if a person doesn’t want to use it granularly. Using it from the container, they’ll need to use it on a level surface, so the granules lie near each other instead of piles. Sprinkling granule on garbage cans won’t really work, so the person will have to dilute it in water in order to apply it to their garbage cans. One of the most impressive products, Macforce Fly Spot bait has three attractants that will stop a fly dead in it’s tracks. The irresistible aroma, the pheromone sugar base, and the active ingredient imidacloprid work very quickly. Bait stations (EZ STRIKE FLY BAIT STATION) are effective, as well. They’re best utilized by filling the trays full of bait and attaching them to the outside of the home where flies may congregate.
